BJP dharna in Ranchi against violence during Amit Shah rally in Kolkata Ranchi, May 15 (PT) The BJP Wednesday staged a dharna, with its participants covering their mouths with black clothes, to protest the violence that broke out during a road show of party president Amit Shah in Kolkata. State Urban Development Minister C P Singh and other BJP leaders sat silently in the dharna at the Elbert Ekka Chowk here. "The West Bengal government is murdering democracy. (Chief Minister) Mamata Banerjee is throttling the voice of the people by using goons and wants to govern by violence and appeasement," Singh said later. He demanded that the Election Commission take notice of the West Bengal government's functioning and take action against it. Kolkata witnessed wide-spread violence during Shah's road show. A bust of 19th century Bengali icon Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was also vandalised during the violence. BJP Jharkhand president Pratul Shahdeo asked JMM president Hemant Soren why he is silent following Banerjee's outbursts against the people of Bihar and Jharkhand. At an election rally in Kolkata on Tuesday, Banerjee had alleged that hooligans from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand have been brought by the BJP to West Bengal to foment trouble in the state during the election.
