Focused on addressing social and emotional needs of young children, Big Feelings Explorer brings to children short format stories of Basma & Jad who along with their friends Cookie Monster, Elmo and others play and along the way learn some important techniques to help children manage big feelings like sadness, frustration, envy and ways to cope with the uncertainty that children in today’s time and age are experiencing.

Basma & Jad, the two best friends with contrasting personalities will be seen joining the existing lineup of beloved furry characters – Elmo, Chamki, Cookie Monster and Abby on Sesame Workshop India Hindi YouTube channel that has garnered 64.4 million views since its launch. Basma is a purple, 6-year-old spontaneous and gregarious character who loves to sing & dance. Jad on the other hand, is a bright yellow muppet with a passion to paint, he has a paintbrush that used to belong to his grandfather, and he frequently paints with it as a token of his memory.

Talking about the new series, Sonali Khan, Managing Director, Sesame Workshop India said “We understand that it’s critical to make children feel secure socially and emotionally, so that they have the required skills  to get them through difficult times in life and thrive. We believe Basma, Jad and their friends will help do just that. They will resonate with children and help build resilience amongst them.”

Spread across 26 comic and heart-warming story episodes, Big Feelings Explorer makes for an engaging experience as Basma & Jad explore and learn about the ‘Big Emotions’ such as anger, sadness, jealousy, nervousness and the situations that can lead up to them. The series teaches children to identify and overcome these emotions through activities such as belly breathing and self-talk.

To transform early childhood development and learning at scale, Sesame Workshop India has been distributing comic stories and light-hearted videos on its YouTube channels in Hindi and Telugu since 2020 alongside its work in Aanganwadi centres, urban slums and villages. Through the YouTube channel content, and on-ground community work across 11 states of the country, the organization reaches children and families with educational resources that they need to succeed in life. The organization mentions that they would also localize the series in Telugu and would bring it to the local audience before the end of 2022.
